A way of perceiving Resonance and Vibration

Resonance- when one object vibrating at the same natural frequency of a second object forces that second object into vibrational motion. The word resonance comes from Latin and means to "resound" - to sound out together with a loud sound.

sound box or sounding box is an open chamber in the body of a music instrument which modifies the sound of the instrument, and helps transfer that sound to the surrounding air.

Vibration- a periodic motion of the particles of an elastic body or medium in alternately opposite directions from the position of equilibrium when that equilibrium has been disturbed (as when a stretched cord produces musical tones or molecules in the air transmit sounds to the ear)

Resonance and vibration are two interconnected states of matter.  Expanding from their dictionary explanations, to the mechanism of thought, it seems they mirror the manner an idea takes shape into the human mind. A stimulus makes the sensorial perception vibrate and the intellect makes it resonate. The memory of each individual influences this resonance box that the mind is. As wood influences the sound of a sound box, our personal experiences shape our thinking. The more we acquire, knowledge through experience, the better we can steer our intellect into sharply articulating our thoughts. Small tuning adjustments and anatomical insights of the instrument are revealed to the builder in time. He understands slowly the properties of the materials and the necessary adjustments he needs to make when building the instrument. The creative mind bears a striking resemblance to the way sound is shaped in a musical instrument. It is the identity of the artist that leaves a deep mark on his thought process, just like the shape of an instrument together with the materials used in its fabrication.

In a wind instrument the air column in the tube vibrates through rapid shifts of pressure in between the air inside the tube and the air outside. This vibration is amplified by the resonance of the tube.

It is this exchange between inside and outside realities that generates a flow of thoughts in the human mind as well. It is this constant repositioning of the individual determined by the changes in his society that produces reactions. Constant oscillation leads to a continuous increase of resonance, so the more agitated times an artist experiences the stronger his reactions will become, the more personal his works will be.

A resonance chamber will resonate when the frequency of the vibration wave matches the natural frequency of the resonating chamber. It is curious how a considerable part of our body is an actual resonance chamber. Together with our vocal chords, our tongue and the hollow space in our mouth we can generate sound and shape it into speech or into music. We have a mind that produces thinking and then uses our body`s ability to generate sound to express part of that thinking. A resonance chamber is an invitation to activate it, is more than an object it is an array of unexplored possibilities.
